Overstock.com launches social media sweepstakes

Salt Lake City – Overstock.com, Inc. is launching a social media-based sweepstakes inspired by its new "The Good Good" advertising campaign.

Contest entrants participate by adding an image or pin representing the work of a non-profit that inspires them to Pinterest. Entrants will then share that pin on the Overtock.com website. One winner will be awarded $2,500, and Overstock.com employees will give the non-profit 100 hours of time.

“We want to reward a person for promoting a non-profit that inspires them to do good and reward the non-profit for being inspirational," said Stormy Simon, co-president of Overstock.com.

The contest runs through Oct. 13.

Hhgregg plans 500 holiday hires

Indianapolis – Hhgregg will hire 500 qualified home appliance and electronics sales associates in preparation for the holiday shopping season for its 228 stores. The company is accepting applications through the end of September and will be hiring for stores in the Midwest, South, Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes regions.

Associates hired in advance of the holiday season will be offered permanent full-time and part-time sales positions. Upon hiring, associates will receive two weeks of dedicated training focused on product knowledge and selling skills, as well as Hhgregg’s policies and procedures.

Whole Foods launches meat apprenticeship

Austin, Texas – Whole Foods Market is launching an in-store meat apprenticeship program for its team members. The intensive 18-month training program is designed to transform aspiring butchers into skilled meat cutters and teach them the company’s standards for quality, animal welfare, food safety, and sanitation.

"The 18-month program is both hands-on and academic. Apprentices will learn how to prepare all cuts of meat from all species as well as merchandising, and also receive culinary training on meat preparation and cooking techniques that they can pass along to shoppers.
