PGA Tour to open first Northeast location

BY Staff Writer

Roswell, Ga. — PGA Tour Superstore announced it will open its first Northeast location, in Paramus, N.J., on Nov. 21. The 57,000 sq.-ft. store will offer a selection of golf merchandise and apparel.

The new PGA will also provide a venue for an estimated 10,000 indoor golf lessons per year. Using state-of-the-art technology in the store’s eight swing simulators, golfers can learn about their golf ball flight, swing speed, launch angle and more in a relaxed, climate-controlled environment. Cutting-edge "virtual reality" experiences will provide golfers with the opportunity to play some of the world’s best courses without ever leaving Paramus. Additionally, golfers will receive a personalized DVD of each lesson to review at home. The store also boasts a 3,000-sq.-ft. putting green for lessons, practice and product demonstrations.

Paramus is PGA Tour Superstore’s fifteenth retail location. The superstores are owned and operated by Golf & Tennis Pro Shop, Inc., whose controlling owner and chairman is Arthur M. Blank, retired Home Depot co-founder and now owner of the Atlanta Falcons.

Ikea seeks to build larger store in Burbank, Calif.

BY Staff Writer

Conshohocken, Pa. – Ikea announced it is submitting plans to the City of Burbank, Calif., for a new and larger store to replace its current location among the Swedish retailer’s presence in the Los Angeles area. The application will mark the beginning of the governmental review process for this proposed relocation.

The current 242,000-sq.-ft. Ikea Burbank, the first Ikea store in California and sixth in the U.S., opened November 1990 on 6.4 acres. The proposed 470,000-sq.-ft. new store would be built on 22 acres. And just as the existing Burbank store has a solar photovoltaic array atop its roof, Ikea also hopes to install a similar solar energy system as part of this proposed new store.
