Planet Fitness to open at Boardman Plaza

Youngstown, Ohio Westport, Conn.-based Charter Realty & Development Corp. announced it has leased 20,000 sq. ft. to Planet Fitness at Boardman Plaza in Youngstown, Ohio.

This is the 20th deal Charter has completed with Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness will occupy a portion of an 80,000-sq.-ft. vacancy that is being redeveloped in the center. The 622,938-sq.-ft. Boardman Plaza is anchored by Burlington Coat, Giant Eagle, Michaels and Hobby Lobby.

7-Eleven sets strategy to fortify Las Vegas real estate position

Dallas 7-Eleven said Tuesday it has partnered with NAI Corporate Real Estate Services in the Las Vegas market as part of the chain’s efforts to build its presence in the area.

7-Eleven currently operates more than 160 stores in Clark County (Las Vegas). It engaged Salt Lake City-based NAI CRES as its exclusive broker for new store growth, site selection, acquisitions, dispositions and other real estate needs.

In addition to ground-up development and acquisitions, the company’s plans call for the franchise conversions of other retail outlets to 7-Eleven stores.  7-Eleven said plans to remodel some existing operations, creating more franchise and other business opportunities. 

NAI CRES also is providing real estate services for 7-Eleven in Salt Lake City and in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. 

7-Eleven operates, franchises and licenses close to 6,450 stores in the United States under the 7-Eleven brand.

Lids to open two new stores in Times Square

Nashville, Tenn. Hat retailer Lids, a division of Genesco, said Tuesday it has signed two leases in Manhattan’s Times Square, which will bring the total number of Times Square locations to four.

This spring, Lids will open a 1,000-sq.-ft. Seventh Avenue shop at 2 Times Square, between West 47th and West 48th Streets, in the same building where the retailer already has an outpost that opens onto Broadway. In the summer, Lids said it plans to open a 1,340-sq.-ft. spot at 1501 Broadway, between West 43rd and West 44th streets.

The retailer, which already five stores in Manhattan, including two in Herald Square and one at South Street Seaport, is planning further growth into other high-trafficked areas, including Union Square, Grand Central and Penn Station.
