Regency Centers to develop new Seattle community shopping center
Jacksonville, Fla. — Regency Centers announced it will launch construction of Grand Ridge Plaza, a 280,113-sq.-ft. shopping center, anchored by market-dominant grocer Safeway, on 24.58 acres.
Located in the heart of Issaquah Highlands, a master-planned community east of downtown Seattle, Grand Ridge Plaza will be the only major retail center to serve the community and is projected to draw shoppers from around the region.
Regency will build the open-air, pedestrian-friendly center to include a 44,543-sq.-ft. Safeway and a 56,820-sq.-ft., 12-screen Regal Cinemas. The center’s merchandising will focus on convenience retail, restaurants, entertainment, and destination retailers in order to create a regional draw from the nearby Sammamish Plateau, greater Issaquah and Interstate 90.
Safeway and the remaining center will open in fourth quarter 2013, following a first-phase opening of Regal Cinemas in second quarter 2013.
As part of Regency’s greengenuity program and in support of the overall sustainability principles of the Issaquah Highlands community, the project will incorporate a variety of green building strategies, including LEED certification. Sustainable practices will focus on energy-efficient design, use of sustainable building materials, water conservation and recycling.

Santa Fe, N.M. — Fort Worth, Texas-based Trademark Property Co. said that Sports Authority will open a new store at Santa Fe Place mall in Santa Fe, N.M.
The 40,000-sq.-ft. store will open in a vacated Mervyn’s anchor space at the center. Construction is slated to launch in October with opening planned for spring 2013. It will be the second Sports Authority in New Mexico; the other store is located in Albuquerque.
Trademark has been directing the remerchandising and redevelopment of the 571,238-sq.-ft. Santa Fe Place, Northern New Mexico’s only regional mall, since the mall was acquired by a private equity fund.
“The transformation of this mall continues to move in the right direction,” said Trademark CEO Terry Montesi. “The first step was to stabilize the mall by adding an attractive new anchor to join Dillard’s, J.C. Penney and Sears, and Sports Authority fits the bill perfectly.”
