Report: Costco gets OK to open store in Baton Rouge
New York — Officials in Baton Rouge have approved more than $7 million in incentives to bring a Costco store to the Louisiana city, the Associated Press reported.
Costco is expected to open a 150,000-sq-ft. store by next April at the site of a former Coca-Cola bottling facility, the report said.
Golfsmith expansion continues with new store in Ohio
Dayton, Ohio — Golfsmith International, is opening a store Beavercreek, Ohio, with a grand opening celebration on May 10-May 12.
The new 20,845-sq.-ft. store features a dominant selection of the best brands in golf and the ultimate ‘try before you buy’ interactive environment. The store has three high-tech golf simulators and an expansive indoor putting green that enable customers to experience the latest equipment.
The new location also features GolfTEC, a state-of-the-art in-store improvement center, with PGA teaching professionals and certified coaches to help golfers improve their games.
The new store is part of Golfsmith’s aggressive growth strategy that is bucking an industry trend of golf store closures. According to the National Golf Foundation, almost half of all golf stores in America closed in the last decade. The Texas-based Golfsmith will continue its expansion in 2013 with 10 planned stores throughout the United States.
The Dayton/Beavercreek store is Golfsmith’s fourth location in Ohio with other stores including Cleveland, Columbus-Easton and Columbus-Sawmill.
WS Development to open outlet center in Cheshire
Chestnut Hill, Mass. — WS Development announced that it will develop an outlet center in Cheshire, Conn. WS Development will introduce leading fashion and designer outlet stores to the 500,000 -sq.-ft. project, which is expected to open in summer 2015.
This open-air shopping, dining and entertainment complex will also include public open space, walkways, recreation amenities, a residential component and full service grocer.
“The decision to build a destination outlet center is in large part due to the very strong retail interest in the project and the success of outlet centers today” said Mark Roberts, senior VP of leasing at WS Development. “With its convenient highway location and super regional access, the project is perfectly positioned within the state for outlet retail.”
The center will be located at the I-84/I-691 Interchange in Cheshire along Route 10 in the town’s Interchange Zone.
