Report: Gap plans China expansion

San Francisco – Gap Inc. reportedly plans a substantial increase in its Gap and Old Navy store count in China during the next several years. Reuters reports that Gap plans to add 30 stores to its existing 81 Chinese locations.

In addition, Gap, which opened the first Chinese Old Navy store in Shanghai on Saturday, March 1, and intends to open five more Old Navy stores by the end of 2014. The retailer also plans to expand its online presence in China and invest in brand awareness among Chinese consumers.

Starbucks coming to Uniqlo’s Fifth Avenue flagship

New York — Uniqlo is remodeling the second floor of its Manhattan flagship on Fifth Avenue, and will reopen it on March 28 as the “SPRZ (Surprise) NY Store.” The renovated space will include the introduction of the “Starbucks Experience,” a full-service coffeehouse.

The renovation is part of Uniqlo’s launch of SPRZ NY, a new global project inspired by modern-day famed and influential artists. The project will feature a number of specially designed items such as T-shirts, outerwear, innerwear and more, as well as a collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Uniqlo signed on as a multi-year, corporate sponsor of MoMA, home to one of the world’s greatest collections of modern and contemporary art, in May 2013.

“We are extremely pleased to have such wonderful partners as MoMA and Starbucks,” said Tadashi Yanai, chairman, president and CEO, Fast Retailing, parent company of Uniqlo.

Dunkin’ Donuts seeks Alabama franchise growth

Canton, Mass. – Dunkin’ Donuts is recruiting franchisees in Dothan, Ala. Currently, there are 18 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants located throughout Alabama. To help fuel growth in Dothan, special development incentives are available, which include reduced royalty fees for three years and up to $10,000 in local store marketing.

Dunkin’ Donuts continues to strategically expand in contiguous markets around the country with a long-term goal of having more than 15,000 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the U.S. The company offers flexible concepts for any real estate format including free-standing restaurants, end caps, in-line sites, gas and convenience, travel plazas, universities, as well as other retail environments.

Dunkin’ Donuts’ new look includes four distinct restaurant design options for franchisees, each featuring variations in layout, color schemes, graphics, textures, furniture and/or lighting. Franchisees are allowed to select individual elements from any of the four options.
