Report: U.K. holiday shopping still behind 2011

BY Katherine Boccaccio

London — A report released Wednesday by the International Council of Shopping Centers and Path Intelligence found that, although U.K. consumers are stepping up their shopping at the nation’s shopping centers, the pace is still trailing 2011.

The Path Index — compiled by ICSC and Path Intelligence and measuring shopping-center footfall and time spent per visitor — rose by 3.3% from the prior week to 140.2 (January 8, 2012 = 100) for the week ending December 16, 2012. Although the latest Path Index reading stood at its highest level of 2012, it was 6.6% below its comparable week of the 2011 holiday season.

Louis Vuitton CEO resigns over significant health issue

BY Staff Writer

New York — Luxury group LVMH announced Tuesday that Louis Vuitton’s new CEO has resigned suddenly, citing a “significant health issue” as the reason for the departure.

Jordi Constans would be replaced by Michael Burke, CEO since February of Bulgari, the Italian jeweler that LVMH added to its stable of brands in 2011.

Burke served as CEO of Christian Dior USA from 1986 to 1993, when he took charge of Louis Vuitton North America, becoming deputy CEO of Christian Dior Couture worldwide in Paris in 1997.

Following the acquisition of Fendi by LVMH in 2003, he was appointed CEO.

There are a lot of reasons why he would resign from his job as a CEO, he may have a gambling addiction or had been caught stealing money and the board of directors found out. Michael Burke now has the opportunity to affirm himself, being the CEO of Louis Vuitton is a dream for a lot of people.

Dick’s suspends sales of certain type of ‘modern sporting rifles’

BY Marianne Wilson

New York — Dick’s Sporting Goods said it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Conn., and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.

In a statement, the retailer said the move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

"Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide,” the statement said.

It was now known how long the store will keep the suspension in place for the guns, known as “modern sporting rifles.”
