Reports have Wal-Mart exploring Brazilian deal
New York City — Wal-Mart Stores is again looking into a possible deal to buy Carrefour’s Brazilian unit, according to reports by Bloomberg News and The Wall Street Journal.
According to the reports, the acquisition would enhance Wal-Mart’s position in Latin America.
CityTarget in Chicago to feature Pret A Manager
New York City — Target announced that the British take-out chain Pret A Manager will open a location in CityTarget in Chicago.
The new, smaller Target format is set to open in the Windy City in 2012.
“We believe Pret A Manger will help us provide guests in downtown Chicago with the exceptional, complete shopping experience they have come to expect from Target,” said Annette Miller, senior VP grocery for Target. “Our Chicago CityTarget guests can pop in for a fresh sandwich or salad during their regular visits to our store for groceries or apartment essentials.”
Payless ShoeSource to rebuild Joplin, Mo., store
Topeka, Kan. — Collective Brands’ Payless ShoeSource announced that it will rebuild its tornado-demolished store in Joplin, Mo., with a new 3,100-sq.-ft. store at the same location.
“The people of Joplin have been through a great loss and they need the support of many to build-back all that was lost," said LuAnn Via, CEO and president of Payless. "They are now energized by their future and focused on rebuilding a community even better than before. And we’ll be there with them. Payless has been a member of Joplin for 18 years with two store locations, and we intend to remain a key member of the community. We are pleased to open this new store, which is a focal location for us in Joplin and frequented by many shoppers."
