Retailers celebrate Earth Day
New York City — Retailers across the nation issued updates on their environmental initiatives in the days leading up to Earth Day, April 22. Starbucks Coffee Co. released its tenth annual "Global Responsibility Report," noting it has reduced water use, increased its renewable energy purchases and is testing a new energy management story (see story here).
Wal-Mart Stores detailed its environmental progress in its “2011 Global Responsibility Report.’ The discounter said it has made steady year-to-year improvement towards its goals of creating zero waste, using 100% renewable energy (see story here). Macy’s celebrated Earth Day by announcing several green initiatives, including the news it is switching to eco-friendly hangers for all apparel and increasing its use of solar power (see story here).
Sears Holdings offers incentives for sustainability
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears Holdings announced that through April 23, customers can trade in their oldautomotive, lawn and garden, marine or power sport battery to be recycled through any Sears Auto Center nationwide and receive a $10 Sears gift card.
In addition, Shop Your Way Rewards Members who present a reusable bag for their purchases or who opt for an emailed e-receipt will be entered into a drawing to reward their environmentally–friendly choices. Each month, three winners will be selected with one winner receiving a $400 Sears gift card and the other two winners receiving $50 Sears gift cards. The promotion runs through March 31, 2012.
GE offers introduction to induction
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — GE announced that it is helping North American consumers become more familiar with induction cooking with the launch of Induction101.com.
“Our goal is to provide educational resources that help consumers better understand how induction and convection technologies work and compare to other cooking methods,” says Mike Nerdig, GE cooking products marketing manager. “Professional chefs know the benefits, but a lack of widespread information tailored specifically for home cooks has made it more difficult for them to weigh their options and choose the best solutions for their lifestyle.”
According to GE, Induction101.com offers consumers easy-to-navigate educational resources, as well as interactive tools to explore GE’s innovative products. Videos and slideshows on induction technology highlight advantages, such as precise control, instant heat response, low temperature cooking of delicate foods, and easy to clean surfaces. Consumers interested in GE’s innovative products have the opportunity to explore product features, controls and design options for induction cooktops and ranges. Downloadable product and installation guides are also available. Cooking tips and other practical user information round out the educational content.
