Room at the Beach, 5 Point Yoga, Westside Estate Agency to open at Malibu Country Mart

Malibu, Calif. Three new tenants — Room at The Beach, 5 Point Yoga and Westside Estate Agency — will open at The Malibu Country Mart, in Malibu, Calif.

The new businesses join existing tenants Planet Blue Clothing, Oliver Peoples, John Varvatos, Ralph Lauren, Chrome Hearts, Earnest Sewn and Madison Gallery at the center. Dining destinations include Nobu Malibu, Taverna Tony, Tra Di Noi, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and more.

The Malibu County Mart sits on six acres in the heart of Malibu. Its 90,000 sq. ft. of high-end retail, dining and service offerings are housed in an eclectic mix of architectural styles including Mediterranean, modern and rustic influences.

Nordstrom opens at Santa Monica Place

Seattle Nordstrom on Friday opened the doors to its new 122,000-sq.-ft. store at Santa Monica Place, Santa Monica, Calif.

Nordstrom at Santa Monica Place also offers services to enhance the shopping experience. These amenities include in-store alterations and tailor shop, certified bra and prosthesis fitters, and Personal Stylist — a complimentary wardrobe and shopping service. The store will also feature two food offerings: a Blue Stove restaurant and an espresso bar.

Jo-Ann Stores swings to profit; 50 new stores and 50 remodels on tap for next year

Hudson, Ohio Jo-Ann Stores on Wednesday swung to a second-quarter profit and raised its full-year outlook. The retailer earned $5.4 million in the quarter ended July 31, compared with a loss of $3.2 million in the year-earlier period.

Sales rose 4.7% to $439.3 million. Same-store sales rose 4.4%.

Darrell Webb, chairman and CEO stated, “Our results marked not only record earnings performance but also the first time in five years that we have generated positive earnings in the second quarter. These results were driven by better than expected performance from our new stores, significant sales lift from our remodels and successful new product assortments.”

Looking ahead to its next fiscal year, the company expects to open at least 50 new stores and remodel at least 50 stores.
