Saks and First Insight team toward investment guidance solution

BY Staff Writer

Pittsburgh — First Insight said Thursday that it has forged an agreement with Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5TH to provide predictive analytics generated from online consumer engagements to help the outlet retailer make faster and more accurate buying and pricing decisions for new products. These decisions are designed to reduce markdowns and out-of-stocks, as well as to mitigate risks associated with new product introductions.

In partnering with First Insight, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th is seeking to gain strategic investment guidance on new fashion apparel products and design concepts. The First Insight solution uses online social engagement tools to gather real-time preference, pricing and sentiment data on Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th’s new products. This information is filtered through First Insight’s predictive analytic models to determine which products present the greatest opportunity.

Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th is currently using the First Insight solution to evaluate a variety of footwear lines.

“The First Insight solution is helping us predict how new products will perform,” said Rob Wallstrom, president of Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th. “First Insight enables us to allocate our inventory by applying useful consumer-sourced information to offer our customers the best product available. Our trial with First Insight was successful, so we decided to move forward with the solution.”

Von Maur to expand e-commerce fulfillment center

BY Staff Writer

Davenport, Iowa — Department store retailer Von Maur said Thursday it has begun construction on an expansion of its e-commerce fulfillment center to support continued growth in its web presence.

Projected for completion in October 2012, the expansion will add an additional 73,000 sq. ft. to the company’s current 46,000-sq.-ft. center in Davenport, Iowa.

The expansion, said the retailer, reflects the company’s successful online business at vonmaur.com, which has seen triple-digit percentage sales increases every year since 2008. Having already outgrown its original 46,000-sq.-ft. facility built in 2010, the new 119,000-sq.-ft. center will further enable Von Maur to serve a nationwide online customer base and grow its presence beyond its established Midwestern roots.

"E-commerce will continue to be a key driver of growth, helping us further extend the one-of-a-kind Von Maur brand and offering to customers across the country," said Jim von Maur, president of Von Maur Department Store.

In addition to growing its online presence, Von Maur is expanding its national footprint with plans to add three new stores to its current 27 stores. A second Atlanta retail location is scheduled to open in fall 2012, and locations in Alabama and New York are scheduled to open in fall 2013.

Me-Ality fitting rooms to launch at select CBL malls

BY Katherine Boccaccio

Chattanooga, Tenn. — Mall owner CBL & Associates Properties announced Wednesday the launch of Me-Ality — a size-matching station for mall shoppers — at nine CBL malls across the United States.

Me-Ality — Measured Reality — size-matching stations offer a revolutionary new technology that enables shoppers to find their best fit, with its free, fully-clothed, 10-second body scan. The free Me-Ality scan identifies the fit, style, design and cut that best match an individual’s measurements. The process recommends the best sizes to buy and where to purchase the items at the mall.

“We think our shoppers will enjoy the service and find it a very useful tool to shop for clothes with ease,” said Jim Ward, senior director of brand development for CBL.
