Sears taps Teradata for database analytics expansion

BY Marianne Wilson

Hoffman Estates, Ill. — Teradata, the analytic data solutions company, announced that Sears Holdings has upgrades its existing Teradata analytic environment with the Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse Platform 6690, which leverages both SSD and HDD storage.

Sears has also added the new Teradata ADW Private Cloud with Elastic Performance on Demand for on-demand business analytics.

"The new Teradata multi-petabyte big-data platform will help Sears lead customer based innovation through integrated retail and support our membership program, Shop Your Way Rewards,” said Oliver Ratzesberger, VP information analytics and innovation at Sears Holdings. "By combining previously separated databases and data marts onto a single virtualized big data platform we eliminate the need to maintain multiple copies and data feeds, thereby reducing time to market as well as TCO."

‘Mad Men’ is back at Banana Republic

BY CSA STAFF

NEW YORK — Banana Republic customers can’t seem to get enough of the ‘Mad Men’ style, so the retailer is bringing back the collection for a third installment beginning March 1, 2013.

Designed by Banana Republic in collaboration with Emmy Award-winning Costume Designer for "Mad Men," Janie Bryant, the collection takes its inspiration from costumes featured in the show, reflecting the mod vibe of the late ’60s. Spring’s collection incorporates fresh bold prints, bright colors and new silhouettes, all demonstrated through the versatile and instantly wearable Banana Republic lens.

"With a new era of fashion inspiration, the design process was exciting for us and allowed for lots of creativity, which is completely visible in the end result," said Simon Kneen, Banana Republic creative director and EVP. "We took Janie’s mod inspiration for the costumes on-screen and translated it in a way that today’s Don or Megan will aspire to wear."
