Sedano’s to expand in Central Fla.
Hialeah, Fla. Hispanic grocer Sedano’s plans to enter the Central Florida market next month, according to the Orlando Sentinal. The company, which is purchasing three Albertsons stores, plans to take possession of those stores in January and hopes to keep them open as it converts them.
Depending on how things go with the first three, Sedano’s may open more stores in Central Florida, the report said.
Sedano’s joins Bravo, another Hispanic supermarket chain that has several locations in Central Florida. Publix, meanwhile, has a Sabor specialty market in Kissimmee, Fla.
Books-A-Million to open two Northeastern stores
Birmingham, Ala. Books-A-Million said Wednesday it will open new stores in Paramus, N.J., and Willow Grove, Pa.
The Paramus location, Books-A-Million’s second in New Jersey, will be part of the Paramus Park Mall, which is managed by General Growth Properties.
The Willow Grove location, Books-A-Million’s third in Pennsylvania, will be part of the Willow Grove Park, a regional suburban shopping center near Philadelphia managed by Philadelphia-based PREIT.
PriceSmart to open new store in Dominican Republic
San Diego PriceSmart announced that on Dec. 22, it acquired approximately 30,000 sq. meters of land in Northwest Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, upon which it plans to construct and operate a new PriceSmart Warehouse Club.
The announced location will be PriceSmart’s third in the Dominican Republic. It is currently anticipated that the new PriceSmart Club will open in the fall of 2010.
