Simon: 4 in 5 consumers begin holiday shopping before Thanksgiving

Indianapolis — Nearly four-fifths of holiday shoppers (79%) begin their holiday shopping prior to Thanksgiving weekend. According to new data from Simon, Millennials are significantly more likely than all other generations to plan to shop on Black Friday (67%) and Christmas Eve (20%) this holiday season.

Other notable findings include:

One-half of holiday shoppers plan to shop on Black Friday (50%). More than four-fifths of Black Friday shoppers (84%) indicate they will shop in stores.

One-fifth of holiday shoppers (21%) plan to shop on Thanksgiving night, with four-fifths of these shoppers (81%) going to physical stores.

One in seven holiday shoppers (14%) plan to still be shopping on Christmas Eve this holiday season. More than nine in 10 Christmas Eve shoppers (92%) will shop in stores.

Sam’s Club launches online Black Friday sale on Thanksgiving

Bentonville, Ark. –- Sam’s Club will launch its Black Friday sale online on Thursday, Nov. 27 just after midnight EST with free standard shipping on Black Friday items. Members can continue shopping in clubs starting at 7 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28.

Most Black Friday deals will extend to the Saturday and Sunday after Black Friday while supplies last. The weekend following Black Friday, Sam’s Club will open its doors to members and non-members Nov. 29-30 for a new event, the Sam’s Club Holiday Open House Weekend. In addition to product sampling demos, the deals from Black Friday online and in-club will continue throughout the weekend, while supplies last, so shoppers who are not members can take advantage of savings typically only available to members.

Dollar General accepts American Express payment

Goodlettsville, Tenn. – All Dollar General stores now accept American Express cards as a form of payment. Dollar General operates more than 11,500 locations in 40 states.

“We strive to provide our customers with a simple and hassle-free shopping experience,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s COO.

“The acceptance of the American Express card makes shopping even easier by offering additional flexibility in customers’ payment choices and is consistent with many of our new initiatives, including DG Digital Coupons, which are all aimed at making it easy to save time and save money at Dollar General.”
