Best Buy opens first European store
Izmir, Turkey Best Buy has opened its first Best Buy-branded store in Europe. The retailer entered the Turkish market by opening a location in the Aegean port city of Izmir last weekend, according to Turkey’s Daily News & Economic Review.
The store aims to serve the market with its customer- and employee-focused approach in a 4,200-square-meter store. The company, which has operations in Canada, China, Mexico and Europe, plans to differentiate itself by explaining technology in a clear, easy way to its customers.
“In order to offer our customers new technologies in an easy and clear way, we have founded interactive-experience zones at our store,” said Best Buy Turkey chairman Rusen Kopmaz during a press conference. “Our employees will give our customers the shopping experience we have committed to at our interactive-experience zones.”
Prices will be the same as other locations, the report said. The firm made Izmir its first choice as a result of a long feasibility study and is also considering investing in Ankara, Turkey.
Caswell-Massey to open new Manhattan boutique
New York City America’s oldest retailer, Caswell-Massey, has signed on to open a new boutique in Manhattan’s newly renovated Limelight Marketplace, which will open as a retail destination in March 2010.
Caswell-Massey, which offers luxury personal-care products, was founded in Newport, R.I., in 1752.
“We cannot wait to open our second New York City store in the Limelight Marketplace — our first Manhattan launch since our flagship opened in 1926,” said Carrie Long, VP retail for Caswell-Massey.
Limelight Marketplace will transform a historic 163-year-old venue into a three-story “festival of shops,” which will feature elaborate facades and varied designs that invoke the feeling of a stroll down a European street.
