Stage Stores appoints divisional chief
Houston Stage Stores said Monday that it has named Robert Bernard as president and COO of its South Hill Division, which is headquartered in South Hill, Va.
Bernard succeeds Richard Maloney, who was appointed chief merchandising officer of Stage Stores in February.
Bernard, 55, was previously senior VP general merchandise manager for Ross Stores. He has also held senior executive merchandising positions at several Macy’s divisions.
In his new position with Stage, Bernard will be responsible for all operations of the South Hill Division, including merchandising, planning and allocation, and store operations.
Stage Stores operates 777 stores in 39 states under the Bealls, Goody’s, Palais Royal, Peebles and Stage banners. The South Hill Division operates 300 of the company’s stores in 24 states.
Maxine Clark leaves J.C. Penney board
New York City J.C. Penney Co. board member Maxine K. Clark has resigned from the retailer’s board, the company disclosed Thursday in a regulatory filing.
Clark is resigning to dedicate more time to leading Build-A-Bear Workshop and pursuing her interests in improving education and mentoring other entrepreneurs. Clark is the founder, chairman and CEO of the stuffed animal retailer.
Clark served as chair of the company’s corporate governance committee and also was a member of the human resources and compensation committee.
A&P makes executive appointment
Montvale, N.J. The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. announced the appointment of Tom O’Boyle to the new position of executive VP, effective immediately.
O’Boyle will be responsible for leading the merchandising, marketing, supply & logistics departments to develop a cohesive synergy between these critical functions, reporting to president and Chief CEO Sam Martin. Prior to joining the A&P, he was president and senior VP, food and drug for Sears.
