Supervalu adds to board

Minneapolis — Supervalu has elected Rite Aid chairman, president and CEO John Standley and Cerberus COO and general counsel Mark A. Neporent to its board of directors.


Standley has spent the past 20 years in executive leadership roles in the grocery and pharmacy retail business. He became Rite Aid Corporation’s president and COO in September 2008, was appointed to the Rite Aid board of directors in 2009 and was named CEO in June 2010. He was elected chairman of Rite Aid’s board of directors in June 2012.

Neporent is a designee of Symphony Investors, a Cerberus affiliate. He has served as COO and general counsel of Cerberus since 1998. Cerberus, one of the world’s leading private investment firms, has more than $20 billion under management.

IBM: 20% online growth in Q1

Armond, N.Y. — First quarter online shopping in 2013 grew more than 20% over the same period last year, and more than five times in-store sales growth, helping drive up department store and home goods purchases, according to the IBM Online Retail Index.

The IBM Index comes on the heels of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau report which announced in-store sales for the January through March 2013 period were up 3.7%.

The IBM Online Retail Index also found:

  • Mobile sales growth of 31% due to with mobile site traffic increasing close to 40%, due to improved customer experience, and iPad and tablet use;
  • Department stores are responding to showrooming trend with 32% in mobile sales and 34% growth in average order value from aggressive omni-channel strategies’; and
  • Home Improvement mobile sales grow 80% as summer approaches.

I have heard that according to the latest IBM Retail Online Index that captured shopping data from the fourth quarter of 2012, online sales increased 15 percent over the same period last year and were triple the sales growth of traditional retail stores. recycle cell phones

Aaron’s names COO

Atlanta — Aaron’s said that David L. Buck has been named COO. Ken Butler, age 60, will be retiring as COO after a 39-year career at Aaron’s effective May 1. He will also resign from the Aaron’s board of directors.

Buck, age 63, was promoted to senior VP, operations earlier this year. He has risen steadily through the Aaron’s management development program during his 24 years with the company.
