Supervalu appoints new CFO
Minneapolis — Supervalu says Sherry Smith has been named the grocery operator’s new CFO.
Smith, 49, has been working as the company’s interim CFO and will assume her new role immediately. She joined Supervalu in 1987 and has held a variety of positions at the company, including serving as its senior VP finance for eight years.
Ikea gives workers a free bike
New York City — Ikea US sent a holiday ‘thank you’ to each of its 12,400 associates with a free bike, the retailer said Tuesday.
The gifts were part of Ikea’s “strong commitment to good health and being environmentally conscious,” while rewarding employees for a good year, the company said.
“It’s been a good year for Ikea, so what better way to celebrate our success than to thank our Ikea co-workers who made this happen,” said Mike Ward, president of Ikea US, the Swedish company’s U.S. subsidiary.
Kohl’s renews Simply Vera license early
Menomonee Falls, Wis. — Kohl’s Corp. said Tuesday it has renewed its long-term license agreement to be the exclusive seller of Simply Vera Vera Wang clothing and other merchandise, and plans to expand the line into makeup.
The original deal, which Kohl’s signed with designer Vera Wang in 2006, has been lucrative for the retail chain. Vera Wang clothing, underwear, pajamas, purses, leather accessories, jewelry, footwear, bedding and bath products generated 48% of Kohl’s sales in the latest third quarter, up "significantly" from 2009, the company said.
