Survey: Amazon.com, Kohl’s and Costco are leaders in customer service
New York City — Amazon.com, Kohl’s Department Stores and Costco Wholesale ranked tops in customer service. according to a new research report published by market researcher Temkin Group.
Retailers took 15 of the top 20 spots in the 2011 Temkin Experience Ratings (www.temkinratings.com), which based its findings on a survey of 6,000 U.S. consumers who had recent interactions with 143 large U.S. companies in a dozen industries.
The only non-retailers in the Top 20 were Marriot International, Hyatt, and Courtyard By Marriot, Regions Financial bank, and insurance company USAA.

Modell’s opens 147th store
New York City — Modell’s Sporting Goods announced the opening of the company’s 147th store this past weekend with the grand opening of a new 8,451-sq.-ft. store located in the Interstate Shopping Center in Ramsey, N.J.
The newest Modell’s marks the second store location following the retailer’s “power format” layout, which is designed for a smaller footprint than the prototypical Modell’s 13,000-sq.-ft. to 18,000-sq.-ft. layout. Modell’s first introduced the smaller concept store in August 2010 when the retailer opened a 7,500-sq.-ft. location on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Ascena appoints senior VP
Suffern, N.Y. — Ascena Retail Group said that Jay S. Levine has been appointed senior VP, chief accounting officer and corporate controller of Ascena Retail Group with responsibilities for SEC reporting, financial planning and analysis, internal controls and corporate taxes.
Ascena operates 2,478 stores under its, Dressbarn, Maurices and Justice banners.
