Talbots Names Bennett President of J. Jill

Hingham, Mass. Talbots Inc. said Tuesday it has appointed Paula Bennett to serve as president of its J. Jill brand, effective Jan. 28.

Bennett is currently with Orchard Brands where she serves as president and CEO of its Appleseed’s, Tog Shop and WinterSilks brands. She previously served as COO of Eileen Fisher.

Bennett is replacing Phil Kowalczyk, who was recently appointed COO at Talbots.

Kirkland’s President and COO Steps Down

Jackson, Tenn. Home-decor retailer Kirkland’s Inc. said Monday that Catherine David, its president and COO, has resigned, effective immediately.

Chief executive Robert Alderson will assume David’s responsibilities. The company currently doesn’t plan to seek a replacement.

Kirkland’s did not give a reason for David’s resignation in its statement and a company spokesman said he couldn’t offer any further comment on the announcement.

Krispy Kreme CEO Resigns

Winston-Salem, N.C. Krispy Kreme announced Monday that chief executive Daryl Brewster has resigned. He will be replaced by the company’s chairman, James H. Morgan.

Brewster left his position for personal reasons but will stay with Krispy Kreme until the end of January, the company said.

In March 2006, Brewster was named CEO to steer Krispy Kreme back on track, but the chain has continued to struggle under his leadership, posting weak sales and persistent losses.
