Target DC to Open in 2006
Minneapolis, Target is building a 1.6 million-sq.-ft. regional distribution center in Rialto, Calif. Construction on the site, located at Casa Grande and Alder Avenue, began this fall and is expected to be completed in summer 2006. Regional distribution centers receive shipments from suppliers, ship products directly to Target stores and provide storage space for merchandise.
Target currently has 22 distribution centers in 19 states.
“The new Rialto distribution facility will help us better serve existing stores and prepare for future growth,” said Mitch Stover, senior vice president, distribution services, Target Corp.
HSN Division Acquires Direct Merchant
St. Petersburg, Fla., HSN Improvements, a direct marketing subsidiary of TV and Web retailer HSN, is spending an undisclosed sum to acquire direct merchant Alsto, a catalog and Web retailer. Alsto, owned by Dick Blick Holdings, sells outdoor decor and furnishings.
Nordstrom Names Board Member
Seattle, Nordstrom, Inc. has elected Phyllis Campbell, chief executive and president of The Seattle Foundation, to its board of directors. From 1993 until 2001, she served as president of U.S. Bank of Washington. Campbell also serves on several corporate and nonprofit boards, including Safeco, Alaska Air Group and Seattle University.
