Target Ups Food Aisles
Minneapolis, Target Stores announced that it will expand food to 34 gondola sides per store at select general merchandise locations. The expansion represents an increase of about 10 gondola sides and includes added assortments of its current food categories.
According to president Gregg Steinhafel, although there are only a limited number of stores with 34 sides of food, that number may rise by year end to 50 to 75 locations.
Kohl’s Reports Q1 Income Boost
Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl’s Corp. reported a net income of $167.2 million, up 34.1% from $124.7 million in the same period last year on a sales gain of 16.1%, to $3.2 billion from $2.7 billion. Comp-store sales rose 6.9% during the quarter.
Bi-Lo Tries Touchscreen Coupon Kiosks
Greenville, S.C., Bi-Lo, LLC plans to test the Matthias MoneyBoard coupon-dispensing system this summer in 15 supermarkets in the Southeast. The system uses three freestanding touch-screen kiosks per store, each with two screens displaying 24 coupons at all times. A touch of the illuminated image on the screen gives shoppers an instant coupon for that product, along with its location in the store.
