Three major malls to be revamped

Chattanooga, Tenn. — Mall owner CBL & Associates Properties said Thursday that, in 2013, it will complete multi-million dollar renovations at three major malls: Friendly Center in Greensboro, N.C.; Greenbrier Mall in Chesapeake, Va.; and The Mall of Acadiana in Lafayette, La.

The Mall of Acadiana – at one million-sq.-ft. and anchored by Dillard’s, Macy’s, J.C. Penney and Sears — will receive updated entrances, paint, new interior décor and graphics, upgraded restrooms, remodeled food court, new landscaping, as well as new amenities, including soft seating areas.

Friendly Center, a lifestyle and entertainment destination that features a 1.3 million-sq.-ft. complex, will receive updated walkway canopies and landscaping.

Greenbrier Mall will receive new upper-level carpet, paint, restroom upgrades, landscaping improvements, as well as a newly designed food court including new tables and chairs. The 900,000-sq.-ft. enclosed regional mall is anchored by Dillard’s, Macy’s, J.C. Penney and Sears.

Walmart to expand presence at Berlin Mall

Berlin, Vt. — Berlin Mall LLC announced it has cleared the last two permitting hurdles to begin an 18,700-sq.-ft. expansion of The Berlin Mall, located in Berlin, Vt. The expansion is part of a planned increase in the size of its Walmart anchor store, which will also expand into existing, adjoining retail space at the mall

Construction is slated to start spring 2013.

In addition to the using the 18,700 sq. ft. that will be added to the mall, Walmart also will absorb 7,500 sq. ft. formerly occupied by F.Y.E., as well as Payless Shoes and Optical Expressions. Both of these tenants have moved to another location within the mall.

Office Depot to open at Lincoln Square Shopping Center

Arlington, Texas — Transwestern announced Tuesday that it has negotiated a new 9,994-sq.-ft. lease for Office Depot at Lincoln Square Shopping Center, located in Arlington, Texas.

The office supply retailer will open its smaller-footprint store – a 10,000-sq.-ft. prototype, downsized from the standard 20,000-sq.-ft. format.

Lincoln Square Shopping Center is a lifestyle shopping and dining center in North Arlington’s Entertainment District.
