Tommy Hilfiger names former Gap Asia Pacific president as its new Asia chief

Amsterdam — The Tommy Hilfiger Group said Wednesday it has named John Ermatinger as CEO of the company’s Asia business, effective Aug. 1.

Ermatinger was previously president of Gap Asia Pacific for two years and president of Gap Japan for three years. Under his leadership, Gap successfully launched the brand in China.

In the newly created position for Tommy Hilfiger, Ermatinger will oversee all business activities in Asia, including the subsidiary Tommy Hilfiger Japan, the joint venture Tommy Hilfiger China, and the various licensed businesses throughout the territory. He will be based in the Hilfiger Hong Kong offices and will report to Fred Gehring, CEO.

Toys”R”Us kindles an e-reader deal

WAYNE, N.J.— Amazon, which reported record 2Q sales, will get even more help boosting its bottom line now that Toys"R"Us will start selling the online retailer’s popular Kindle e-reader.

Beginning July 31, Toys"R"Us will offer an assortment of Amazon Kindle portable readers, as well as Kindle accessories. Models that will be available at Toys“R”Us stores include Kindle Wi-Fi in graphite, Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi in graphite and Kindle Wi-Fi with Special Offers.

Toys“R”Us will also carry a variety of accessories and cases, including the Amazon Kindle Leather Cover, Amazon Kindle Cover with Light and Amazon Kindle power adapters.

Toys"R" Us said it would promote the availability of the Kindle in its July 31 circular and offer a free $10 gift card to customers who purchase the Kindle through Aug. 6, while supplies last.

AMSTERDAM — The Tommy Hilfiger Group has announced the appointment of John Ermatinger to CEO of the company’s Asia business, effective Aug. 1. In this newly created position Ermatinger will report to Fred Gehring, CEO of the Tommy Hilfiger Group. Ermatinger will be based in the Tommy Hilfiger Hong Kong offices.

As CEO of the Asia business, Ermatinger will oversee all business activities in Asia, including the subsidiary Tommy Hilfiger Japan, the joint venture Tommy Hilfiger China, and the various licensed businesses throughout the territory.

Ermatinger most recently served as president of Gap Asia Pacific for two years and President of Gap Japan for three years. Under his leadership, Gap successfully launched the brand in China. Prior to Gap, he was the general manager of Asia Pacific Apparel and Asia Hub Director of Global Apparel Sourcing for Nike Inc. From 1973 to 1998, he held various positions at Levis Strauss & Co. including president of Levi Strauss The Americas.
