Topshop to open Fifth Avenue flagship; four other U.S. stores
London – Trendy British retailer Topshop/Topman plans to open a 40,000-sq-ft. flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York. The new Manhattan store will be located on the corner of 49th Street, and is adjacent to Rockefeller Center.
The store will open in fall 2014, and several hundred new jobs will be created including in the company’s new U.S. head office operations, based in New York. The upper levels of the store will feature art deco detailing, while the lower floors will transition to the contemporary style. There with be continuous glazing on both levels, purposely created to allow dynamic window displays and creating a wrap-around dramatic impact.
Topshop and Topman will expand further within the U.S. with four additional new store openings across the country – Topshop and Topman joint stores in Fashion Valley San Diego (17,500 sq. ft.), and a stand-alone Topshop in Springfield Town Center Washington (5,000 sq. ft.) in the fall of 2014 and Topshop and Topman joint stores in Galleria Mall Houston (16,500 sq. ft.) and Lennox Square Mall Atlanta (15,500 sq. ft.) slated for spring 2015.
International franchise expansion of the Topshop and Topman brands will lead to a planned 15 stores in eight countries by summer 2014, including Russia, Turkey and Vietnam.

Walgreens January sales grow 3.7%
Deerfield Park, Ill. – Walgreens had January 2014 sales of $6.39 billion, an increase of 3.7% from $6.17 billion for the same month in fiscal 2013. Same-store sales grew 2.9%.
Calendar day shifts negatively impacted total comparable sales by 0.3 percentage point, while generic drug introductions in the last 12 months negatively impacted total comparable sales by 0.9 percentage point. Walgreens opened 12 stores during January, including three relocations, and closed three.
Home Depot Canada to hire 6,300 spring employees
Toronto – The Home Depot Canada is currently hiring 6,300 associates across all 180 locations to support its spring season. The company is hiring full-time, part-time and seasonal positions, such as sales associates, cashiers, design professionals, department supervisors and night operators.
Job opportunities are available on a market-by-market basis and are based on individual store needs.
