Trans World to Close Two Facilities

Albany, N.Y. Trans World Entertainment Corp. said late Thursday that it will close two facilities and lay off 252 employees as part of a plan to restructure and improve operations.

The chain said it will phase out the operations of its distribution center in North Canton, Ohio, during the next two months. Currently 234 people work at the center.

Trans World, which sells music, videos and other items through such stores as F.Y.E. and Suncoast, will use centers in Albany and Carson, Calif., to service its current retail locations.

Also, Trans World said it will close its Johnstown, N.Y., fixture facility, where 18 are currently employed. No timeframe was given for its closure.

AE to launch new children’s line, 77kids

PITTSBURGH American Eagle Outfitters today reported that it is launching a new children’s apparel line, 77kids by american eagle.

The line will debut online at www.77kids.com later this year, AE reported, with brick-and-mortar stores in the U.S. planned for 2009. The company added this is its first online-only launch of a brand.

77kids is a natural fit for American Eagle, said Jim ODonnell, ceo of American Eagle Outfitters. Were leveraging the AEO expertise and best practices to create something new, incremental and exciting for customers.

DwellStudio crafts home, baby line for Target

MINNEAPOLIS DwellStudio, a leading home furnishings company, is launching a new home and baby collection exclusively at Target stores and at Target.com, the companies announced today.

The DwellStudio home collection will include a bedding line that features old-world design combined with minimalist style, the companies reported, and a dining line that incorporates mix-and-match patterns in its tablecloths, placemats, napkins, table runners, kitchen towels, pot holders and oven mitts.

The baby bedding and furniture line features the same modern aesthetic as the home collection, the companies reported. The line includes nightlights, boudoir pillows, wall decals, blankets and soft toys available in a variety colors, patterns and styles.

The DwellStudio for Target Baby collection will launch in January 2008. The home collection will be available in February. Prices for the home collection range from $2.99 for a napkin to $99.99 for a king-sized comforter mini set. The baby collection ranges from $2.99 for a pair of booties to $79.99 for a three-piece crib set. The furniture ranges in price from $99.99 for an ottoman to $299.99 for a crib or $289.99 for a convertible dresser/changing table.
