Two Super G Supermarkets to Close
Philadelphia, The restructuring of Stop & Shop/Giant, a major East Coast grocery retailer, will result in the closure of two area units in August, and several others will change their names.
Underperformance is cited as the reason for the closings. About 400 employees will be affected.
Four Super G stores will soon become Stop & Shops, joining a new Stop & Shop opening mid-August in nearby Harrison, Pa.
London’s Lost Sales
London, The British Retail Consortium estimated that central London experienced a 77% decline in shopping traffic on Thursday, the day following multiple bombings of the city’s transit system. The group, the largest trade association in the United Kingdom, estimated the attacks resulted in lost sales of ?26 million, or $45.4 million.
Walgreens Pharmacists Remain on Strike
Deerfield, Ill., Chicago-area Walgreens pharmacists are still striking, and both sides say no new talks have been scheduled. Previous talks with the National Pharmacists Association have led to no agreement.
In the meantime, the Walgreens that are affected by the strike are keeping pharmacies open, staffing them with non-union pharmacists and technicians.
