Uniqlo opens store in NYC subway station
New York — Uniqlo has opened a pop-up store in the 14th Street-Union Square subway station in Manhattan. The store, which will be open through the holidays, will offer shoppers will get a $5 Metro Card in a limited-edition sleeve with any purchase.
“This shop fits perfectly with our strong belief in the fundamental power of clothing to improve people’s lives, and our hope is that it will provide people with comfort and warmth during the winter season,” said Larry Meyer, COO of Uniqlo USA.
“Pop-up stores will provide a fresh and beneficial element to our stations while also improving the image and desirability of retail space in the subway,” said MTA chairman and CEO Thomas F. Prendergast. “This is another example of the MTA working to make better use of its real estate portfolio and improving the subway environment for customers at the same time.”
This October and November, Uniqlo is also opening ten new mall stores in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California including stores opening soon in Brooklyn, Long Island and Staten Island.
Dunkin’ Donuts looks to expand California presence to 1,000 locations
Canton, Mass. — Dunkin’ Donuts announced it is expanding to California’s Central Valley and Central Coast, including Fresno, Bakersfield, Sacramento and Santa Barbara, Calif. The company is recruiting qualified multi-unit operators to open both traditional restaurants and a wide range of non-traditional venues, including colleges and universities, casinos, military bases, supermarkets, airports and travel centers. Over time, Dunkin’ Donuts plans to have as many as 1,000 restaurants throughout the state.
In January, Dunkin’ Donuts announced plans to enter Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, Ventura and Orange counties and has since executed franchise agreements to develop more than 70 new freestanding restaurants in these markets, which will begin opening in 2015. A franchise agreement with Embassy Suites San Diego has also been signed, and the restaurant is planned to open in first quarter 2014.

Nordstrom Rack to open in Dublin, Calif., in 2015
Seattle — Nordstrom plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at the Village at Dublin in Dublin, Calif. The approximately 35,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2015. The center is being developed by Regency Centers Corp.
The new Nordstrom Rack will be located approximately three miles east of the full-line Nordstrom store at Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton, Calif. On September 12, the Rack opened its newest East Bay location in Pleasant Hill, Calif., at Sunvalley Shopping Center. The company also operates Rack stores in nearby San Leandro and Fremont.
"The presence of Nordstrom Rack complements the exciting merchandising mix of Village at Dublin, which will offer a variety of emerging restaurants and first-class retailers," said Pete Knoedler, senior VP of investments at Regency Centers.
