Urban Outfitters to open ‘lifestyle center’ concept in New York

BY Marianne Wilson

New York — Urban Outfitters has signed a lease for 56,730 sq. ft. on three levels at W&H Properties’ 1333 Broadway site, where the retailer will create its innovative new “lifestyle center” concept with new features never before seen from the brand, according to Anthony Malkin, president of Malkin Holdings, which supervises the W&H Properties portfolio.

The retailer will take occupancy in September.

“This store will be a huge catalyst for this retail and office neighborhood extending north of Herald Square,” said Malkin. “The area has seen transformational changes over the past few years, as Broadway with its pedestrian arcades links Herald Square to Times Square, and Urban Outfitters will be a magnet for shoppers.”

Former Grand Union stores converted to Tops banner

BY Marianne Wilson

Williamsville, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets has officially unveiled 12 former Grand Union stores in eastern and northern New York under the Tops banner at grand re-opening ceremonies.

The new Tops branded stores include stores in Saratoga, Warrensburg, Warren, Franklin, Essex, Clinton and Fulton counties.

"The entire Tops team has worked very hard to that ensure our new store customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities and an increased variety of products that our neighborhood stores will offer," said Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO. "And we want to continue the tradition of giving back and being active members of the local community."

Actual store improvements vary by individual store, Curci said, but all provide a wider variety and selection of favorite brand products, interior and exterior renovations as well as refinished store fronts.

The 12 Grand Union stores were part of a 21-store acquisition that Tops entered into an agreement for in July 2012.
