VeriFone plans new mobile payments terminal
San Jose, Calif. — VeriFone Systems Inc. plans to release the VX 690, a handheld EMV-capable payment terminal featuring Bluetooth, 3G radio and Wi-Fi connectivity for fast transactions and flexible payment capabilities, in late 2014. The terminal is PCI PTS 3.0 compliant and features built-in security protection that includes end-to-end encryption to protect data at every point of the transaction.
Its built-in functionality includes a 3.5-inch capacitive touch display that allows merchants to enable commerce with marketing messages via video streaming and audio capabilities, single micro-USB connector, EMV capability for supporting PIN, signature, and no Cardholder Verification Method (CVM), NFC capability to support contactless and mobile wallet transactions, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) support, and peripheral capability for potential future expansion, including biometric scanner/bar code reader.
Target launches sustainable product line
Minneapolis — Target Corp. is introducing “Made to Matter – Handpicked by Target.” The collection brings together 17 natural, organic and sustainable brands to introduce new products.
Spanning Target’s baby, beauty and personal care, grocery, healthcare and household product categories, Made to Matter brands include Annie’s Homegrown, Burt’s Bees, Chobani, Clif Bar & Company, Ella’s Kitchen, EVOL, Horizon Organic, Hyland’s, Kashi, Method, Plum Organics, Seventh Generation, SheaMoisture, Target’s Simply Balanced, Vita Coco, Yes To and Zarbee’s Naturals. The Made to Matter collection includes all products currently offered at Target by the participating brands and at least one new exclusive item from each brand.
There will be more than 120 new and limited-time exclusive Made to Matter products. Products will be available throughout the store, both in the products’ usual aisles and as part of specialized collection displays. Select products also will be available on Target.com and Target’s mobile app. First introduced in Target stores at the end of March 2014, new Made to Matter products will be added throughout spring and summer, with the complete collection available by September 2014.

Ralphs opens new California store April 10
Compton, Calif. — Ralphs will open a new Ralphs Fresh Fare store in Sherman Oaks, Calif., on April 10. The new 72,000-sq.-ft.store replaces an older Ralphs that operated for 42 years from the same location before it was closed in 2012, and will employ about 240 full- and part-time workers.
The new Sherman Oaks Ralphs will also feature an in-store Murray’s Cheese Shop, as well as fresh produce; a fully staffed meat department; a fresh seafood department; a full-service bakery; a service delicatessen with fresh items; and a full-service pharmacy. The store will also feature Kosher Experience, a 1,500-sq.-ft. store-within-a-store featuring a full-service delicatessen, bakery, meat and seafood department, frozen food section and several aisles of non-perishable kosher food products.
