Wal-Mart Appoints New Marketing Exec
Bentonville, Ark., Wal-Mart Stores named Stephen F. Quinn as senior VP, marketing, effective Sept. 12. Quinn is chief marketing officer for Frito-Lay, North America. At Wal-Mart, he will be responsible for marketing strategy, planning, research and brand development. He will report to executive VP and chief marketing officer John Fleming.
In other Wal-Mart news, the chain opened its first supercenter in Los Angeles County yesterday, in the town of Palmdale, Calif. The 205,000-sq.-ft. store is located about 70 miles from downtown Los Angeles.
Dick’s Connects With AT&T
Pittsburgh, Dick’s Sporting Goods will install an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VIN) designed to integrate all retail stores, corporate offices and distribution centers. The system will be provided by AT&T. “Knowing that our data is secure enables us to focus on our core mission,” said Linda Walker, VP of infrastructure and security for Dick’s. Dick’s has 239 locations and had sales of $2.1 billion in 2004.
