Wal-Mart Names Head of Asia Retail Operations
Bentonville, Ark. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has appointed Vicente Trius to serve as executive VP, president and CEO of Wal-Mart Asia, International. Trius most recently served as president and CEO of Wal-Mart Brazil.
Succeeding Trius will be Hector Nunez who will assume the position of president and CEO of Wal-Mart Brazil, effective Feb. 1. Nunez joined Wal-Mart Brazil as executive VP and COO in July 2006.
Walgreens Announces Organizational Changes
Deerfield, Ill. Alejandro Silva, chairman and CEO of Chicago-based Evans Food Group, Ltd., has been elected to Walgreens board of directors as an independent director, effective Jan. 9. The company also announced that James J. Howard is retiring from the board.
Walgreens also announced that Stanley B. Blaylock, previously corporate VP and senior VP of specialty pharmacy and home care for Walgreens Health Services, has been promoted to a corporate senior VP and president of Walgreens Health Services. Blaylock replaces Trent E. Taylor, who has left the company.
Blaylock joined Walgreens in 2006 with the company’s acquisition of Pittsburgh-based Medmark Specialty Pharmacy Solutions, where he was president and CEO.
Walgreens also promoted VP of purchasing David A. Van Howe to a corporate VP. Van Howe joined Walgreens in 2000 as GMM of beauty and fashion.
Report: Home Depot Shifts Night Crews
Atlanta The Home Depot Inc. plans to reassign overnight-shift employees to days at its lower-volume stores, a change that puts more workers on the sales floor without raising costs, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Combined with a change in how products are ordered, the work-force reassignment is part of the company’s push on customer service, according to Paul Raines, Home Depot’s executive VP for stores. The switch won’t reduce employees’ hours or result in layoffs.
The change could affect as many as half of the company’s 2,000 U.S. stores, the report said.
The decision reverses a plan implemented several years ago by former Home Depot CEO Robert Nardelli, who switched freight receiving and stocking to overnight hours in order to reduce aisle clutter and safety concerns caused by forklifts operating during busy daytime hours. However, the change led to complaints of poor customer service.
