Wegmans to Establish Pharmacy School
Rochester, N.Y., Robert B. Wegman, chairman of Wegmans Food Markets, has donated $5 million to be used for the creation of the Wegmans School of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, N.Y. The school is expected to open in 2006.
Macy’s Launches Star Rewards Program
Cincinnati, Federated Department Stores is launching a new, nationwide Macy’s customer-loyalty program, called Star Rewards, in coordination with the launch of the Macy’s nameplate across the country. All active customers in five Macy’s divisions are being enrolled automatically in the new program, which becomes effective March 1. Nearly 16 million cards are being mailed out.
The new cards are color-coded to represent the customer’s purchasing level at Macy’s, with each customer tier receiving a certain level of benefits.
In addition to rewards tied to usage, the program also includes frequent-buyer benefits in categories such as hosiery and intimate apparel.
Build-A-Bear Hits the Road
St. Louis, Build-A-Bear Workshop plans to take its make-your-own-teddy-bear format on a road tour. The retailer will set up temporary stores in sporting and entertainment venues across the country.
The first stop on the tour is JEA Park in Jacksonville, Fla. The temporary store will be open from Jan. 29-30 and Feb. 3-6, to coincide with the Super Bowl.
