Wendy’s names Domino’s exec as marketing VP

Dublin, Ohio – Brandon Solano, 43, has been named senior VP of marketing of The Wendy’s Company. Solano will report to Wendy’s chief marketing officer Craig Bahner and will lead the company’s brand marketing efforts.

Prior to joining Wendy’s, Solano served three years as VP of franchise development at Domino’s, leading retail store expansion, global retail re-imaging and franchise recruiting. From 2008 to 2011, Solano spearheaded product innovation at Domino’s. Prior to Domino’s, Solano served as marketing director for The Hershey Company.

Solano also has held marketing positions with Procter & Gamble, the Kellogg Company and Newell Rubbermaid.

Board changes at Sears Canada

Sears Canada has added EVP and operating chief Klaudio Leshnjani to the board of directors, following the sudden passing of H Ronald Weissman.

Weissman has served as a member of board since Nov. 2013 and was a member of the audit committee.

Leshnjani held several executive positions with the company, including EVP, chief administrative officer and general counsel, EVP, financial and home services, human resources, general counsel and corporate communications and SVP and general counsel.

"On behalf of the board of directors, I offer Ron’s family our deepest sympathy and want to let them know how appreciative we are for his contribution to Sears Canada," said William C. Crowley, chairman of the board. "He achieved many significant accomplishments during his life and will be greatly missed by his colleagues on the board."

Sears Canada is a multichannel retailer with a network that includes 176 corporate stores, 229 Hometown stores, more than 1,400 catalog and online merchandise pickup locations, 96 Sears Travel offices and a nationwide repair and service network.

Walgreens seeks new president of pharmacy

Walgreens president of pharmacy, health and wellness Kermit Crawford is leaving the company after 31 years to take on new opportunities, including continuing to serve as a senior counselor to Walgreens president and CEO Greg Wasson.

Crawford announced that he plans to join the University of Southern California’s School of Pharmacy, where will serve as executive in residence and senior adviser to the dean. Crawford currently is a member of the USC School of Pharmacy’s board of councilors. He also will serve as National Chair for the American Diabetes Association’s new Ad Council campaign across the country. The association recently named him volunteer of the year in his longtime role as a member of the organization’s board for the Northern Illinois and Indiana region. His retirement from Walgreens will be effective Dec. 31, 2014, after which he will assume the role of senior counselor.

“After 31 years with Walgreens, starting as a pharmacy intern in my 20s, the time is right to retire from the company to broaden my horizons and seek new ways to serve,” Crawford said. “I love Walgreens, cherish my years and friends here and the incredibly dedicated people across the company. To me, community pharmacy has long been an unsung hero in our health care system, helping primary caregivers to provide convenient, affordable and essential health and wellness services in neighborhoods across America. I look forward to continuing to help Greg Wasson and the team to advance the role of community pharmacy in health care as I also pursue other opportunities to provide leadership in new areas.”

Crawford began his career with Walgreens as a pharmacy intern in 1983. He advanced through company ranks, holding positions from pharmacist to store and district manager to VP of store operations. In 2004, he was named Walgreens Health Services VP of PBM (pharmacy benefit management) services and, in 2005, was promoted to EVP of PBM services and a corporate VP for Walgreens, heading up all aspects of strategic, operational and profit and loss management of the company’s PBM covering more than 10 million lives.

Crawford was promoted to Walgreens SVP and then EVP of pharmacy services in 2007 and 2010, respectively. In this role, he pioneered the effort to transform community pharmacy from a transaction-based practice to one focused on access to affordable, quality care. In September 2010, he was promoted to president of the division. In 2011, his role was broadened to include leadership of all pharmacy, health and wellness services.
