Wingstop to open 20 stores in Baltimore-Washington area
Richardson, Texas — Wingstop is expanding throughout the Baltimore-Washington corridor. The company, which has experienced more than seven years of same store sales increases, recently signed a development agreement to open 20 stores in the area over the next several years.
Business partners Rahim Kurji and Bidjaan Kassam have signed a 20-store development agreement and expect to open four locations in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., this year.
Dunkin’ Donuts announces agreement for 16 new locations across Florida
Canton, Mass. — Dunkin’ Donuts has signed agreements with four franchisees to develop 16 restaurants in Tampa, Orlando and Tallahassee over the next several years.
Dunkin’ Donuts development throughout Florida is part of a steady and strategic growth strategy, which includes expanding in existing markets while entering new cities across the country.
"The Sunshine State is a priority growth market for Dunkin’ Donuts in 2011 and we’re excited to expand our footprint in three key markets," said Grant Benson, CFE, VP franchising and market planning, Dunkin’ Brands.
Walmart investing $500 million in Canada
New York City — Walmart Canada, a unit of Wal-Mart Stores, will invest approximately $500 million on expansion its upcoming fiscal year, which runs from Feb. 1, 2011 to Jan. 31, 2012. The discounter plans to open new supercenters, as well as expand, relocate and remodel existing stores.
Although Walmart Canada did not disclose exact locations, it did reveal that it will enter two new new markets this year: the provinces of Quebec and Manitoba.
The expansion will bring the chain’s presence in Canada to 333 locations (164 supercenters, 169 discount stores) by the end of January 2012.
Walmart Canada’s announced expansion comes on the heels of Target Corp.’s announcement that it will enter the canadian market via its purchase of Zellers.
