Zappos redesigns website, names new artistic director

BY Dan Berthiaume

Las Vegas – Zappos Couture is launching a redesigned web presence with artistic direction and editorial from new artistic director Andre Leon Talley. Talley and Zappos Couture created the imagery for the new editorial in New York City’s Industria Studios in December 2013.

Shot by fashion photographer Francesco Carrozzini, the visual content was inspired by a day in the life of a woman infused with vibrant colors. Talley styled models who posed on sets of ordinary, pedestrian situations, but in extraordinary, bold hues. Talley is international editor-at-large of Numero (Russia) and member of the Board of Trustees, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). The site will also include editorial content and a digital video series from Talley. Customers will be able to click through to buy products.

"We are excited to unveil the re-designed Zappos Couture, especially the new, original content," said Jennifer Sidary, head of couture at Zappos Couture. "Andre has done a magnificent job as artistic director in translating and editing what’s happening in fashion to provide our customer base with a fresh perspective."

Bruegger’s launches art contest, new store concept

BY Dan Berthiaume

St. Paul, Minn. – Bruegger’s Bagels opens a new store concept in Woodbury, Minn., today, and is launching a promotional contest to find artwork to place on a large brick feature wall in the store. Through March 31, amateur and professional artists can submit an abstract, two-dimensional design for the wall.

The winning design will be the focal point of the bakery and will be used in select new bakeries nationwide. The chosen artist will receive a $10,000 cash prize. Contest details are available on Bruegger’s Facebook page.

The 2,200-sq.-ft. bakery features an open kitchen with plate glass windows. The inviting, contemporary new interior is flooded with natural light through large windows, and features simple, sleek lines and warm brick juxtaposed with stainless steel accents befitting a working bakery. A large community table and bar seating replace traditional booths and tables and encourage conversation among guests. The new design will be the prototype for all future Bruegger’s openings.

"We are a neighborhood gathering place, and the new prototype is designed to accentuate our bagel tradition while also celebrating new ideas and the creative spark," said Bruegger’s Bagels director of marketing Judy Kadylak. "The $10,000 Artist Challenge is a nod to all of our guests who create the warm, inviting atmosphere in our bakeries."
