BJ’s Wholesale Club expanding; to enter its 18th state

BJ’s will open its first location in Indiana this year.

BJ’s Wholesale Club’s ongoing expansion is bringing it into a new market.

The membership warehouse club retailer is opening four new clubs as the next phase of its 2022 development plans, including locations in New Albany, Ohio; Wayne, N.J.; Midlothian, Va.; and Noblesville, Ind. All the new clubs will feature a BJ’s Gas station.

The Noblesville club will be BJ’s first location in Indiana, while New Albany marks the company’s seventh store in Ohio. The Midlothian and Wayne clubs will add to BJ’s strong presence in Virginia (13 clubs) and New Jersey (23 clubs), respectively.

BJ’s is on track to open approximately 10 locations this year. In May, the company debuted a new club concept, called BJ's market, in Warwick, R.I. At 43,000 sq. ft., the new format is about half the size of a full-sized BJ’s.

“We’ve seen tremendous success in growing our footprint over the last several years, both in our core East Coast communities as well as in new markets like the greater Detroit and Pittsburgh areas,” said Bill Werner, executive VP, strategy and development, BJ’s Wholesale Club. “Our expansion into the greater Indianapolis and Columbus markets allows us to bring the value of our membership to these new communities we look forward to serving.”
