Kohl’s No. 2 executive to step down

9/6/2019
A key member of the Kohl’s leadership team is leaving the company “to pursue new opportunities.”

The department store retailer announced that Sona Chawla will step down as president at Kohl’s in mid-October. Chawla had been viewed by industry analysts as a leading candidate to succeed Kevin Mansell when he retired as Kohl's CEO. But the company's board instead chose Michelle Gass, then the chief merchandising and customer officer. Chawla, who joined Kohl’s in fall 2015 as COO, became president when Gass took the reins in May 2018.

Prior to joining Kohl’s, Chawla was president of digital and chief marketing officer at Walgreens. She also held executive positions with Dell and Wells Fargo’s Internet Services Group.

“I want to thank Sona for her partnership and leadership in helping to drive our business forward and setting us up for the future,” stated Gass. “Amongst many contributions, Sona has been instrumental in our progress as a leading omnichannel retailer, driving innovation and growth across our digital business and stores, as well as providing leadership to our logistics strategy and long-term technology roadmap. Sona has been a key member of the Kohl’s leadership team, and we wish her great success in all that is ahead of her.”
