What once was shopping, strolling, and snacking at malls is increasingly turning into bowling, gaming, and dining.

Macerich, which owns 44 enclosed and open-air centers totaling 48 million sq. ft. of GLA in the United States, has announced that Round1 Bowling & Amusement will soon be taking up spaces at its Arrowhead Towne Center in Phoenix and its Danbury Fair in Connecticut.

Over the past months, other entertainment tenants moving into large spaces at Macerich properties in California have included Dave & Busters at Vintage Faire in Modesto and Xlanes at Fashion Fair in Fresno. Pinstripes is set to open at Broadway Plaza in the East Bay community of Walnut Creek.

“As our A-quality properties continue to attract a wide variety of new uses and new concepts, best-in-class, large-format entertainment companies are increasingly choosing Macerich destinations for their new locations,” said Macerich’s senior executive VP of leasing Doug Healey, “More and more, people want physical places where they can be together and have fun.”

Macerich’s portfolio is concentrated in California, the Pacific Northwest, Phoenix/Scottsdale, and the Metro New York to Washington, D.C., corridor.
