Walgreens to give cash incentive to fully vaccinated employees

Walgreens’ employees who are fully vaccinated by Nov. 30 will receive a $200 incentive.

Walgreens is giving its employees an incentive to get fully vaccinated and is also rewarding its pharmacists with a one-time bonus.

The drug store retailer said that it will provide a $200 incentive to any employee who is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Nov. 30. The payment will be in the form of myWalgreens cash.

"Throughout the pandemic, we have followed the science, which shows that vaccinations are the best way to protect against the spread of COVID-19," said Walgreens chief medical officer Kevin Ban. "This new incentive is one more way we are building on our progress to ensure team members are vaccinated, and complying fully with government guidance.”

The company also said it will give a one-time bonus of $1,250 to full-time pharmacists and a $1,000 payment to part-time pharmacists.  The bonuses will be paid this month.

In addition, pharmacy technicians who are certified — or become certified — to administer flu and COVID-19 vaccines will receive a $1,000 reward throughout a six-month retention period. Walgreens said it has administered more than 30 million COVID-19 vaccines to date.

“We are always pleased to thank and reward our pharmacy team members for their exceptional dedication to supporting our patients, customers and communities, especially as they continue to play a vital role in leading the nation’s COVID-19 vaccination and testing efforts,” said John Standley, president, Walgreens, which operates more than 9,000 locations across America, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
