Nordstrom Local expanding

Nordstrom is doubling down on its no-inventory store format in the company’s largest market.

The department store retailer will open two more Nordstrom Local stores in the Los Angeles area, including a 1,193-sq.-ft. location that will open on Nov. 6 in Newport Beach. A 1,886-sq.-ft. location in Manhattan Beach will follow in the coming months.

Los Angeles is one of Nordstrom’s largest markets with 14 full-line stores, 30 Rack stores and three (soon to be five) Nordstrom Local sites. Nordstrom Local debuted in October 2017, in Los Angeles, and has since opened in the city’s Melrose and Brentwood neighborhoods. It also has two locations in New York City, on Manhattan’s Upper East and in the West Village.

The new Nordstrom Local stores will feature an array of services, including online order pickup (with contactless curbside pickup), easy returns, styling advice and complimentary gift-wrapping for all Nordstrom purchases.

In addition, the store will offer alterations, including same-day hems, sleeve shortening, sizing adjustments and more. Customers can also bring in their empty beauty packaging to be recycled and drop off their gently-used fashions, which will be distributed to a local non-profit.

“Opening Nordstrom Local service hubs in the Los Angeles area is part of the continuation of our market strategy in one of our largest markets to provide customers with greater access to merchandise selection and faster delivery while increasing convenience and connection through our services," said Ken Worzel, COO,  Nordstrom. “Nordstrom Local customers who engage with our services at a Local including curbside pick-up, returns, alterations and styling spend more than two-and-a-half times compared to other customers.”
