Ikea’s assembly service arm targeted by hackers

4/18/2018
TaskRabbit, Ikea’s furniture assembly service division, is the latest company to be hit by a cyberattack.

The company is investigating what it called “a cybersecurity incident” that shut down its online platform on Monday. TaskRabbit is an on-demand services platform company that connects customers with workers, called “taskers,” that handle everyday needs such as furniture assembly, moving and packing, general handyman repairs, and home improvements. Ikea acquired TaskRabbit in September 2017.

The company is keeping its app and website offline while it investigates the attack. The firm has also dispatched a large team to work with taskers and clients, via phone, to help them schedule and complete pending tasks, according to the company.

“Our entire team is working around the clock with an outside cybersecurity firm and law enforcement to determine the specifics. We’re working to get the site back online as quickly as possible, and continuing our investigation into the incident,” according to TaskRabbit’s FAQ page.

The company also urged customers that share passwords between TaskRabbit and other sites to change them.
