Walmart to pilot long-awaited truck from Tesla
The nation's largest retailer is set to be among the first companies to test Tesla's electric tractor trailer, the Tesla Semi.
Walmart has preordered five of the trucks, CNBC reported.
The sleek-looking truck, which can drive 500 miles on a single charge, has a low center of gravity, making it difficult for the truck to rollover and impossible to jack-knife, according to Tesla. Each truck also have built-in connectivity that integrates directly with a fleet's management system to allow routing and remote monitoring.
"We have a long history of testing new technology – including alternative-fuel trucks – and we are excited to be among the first to pilot this new heavy-duty electric vehicle," Walmart said in a statement to CNBC.
