Beer-beer-beer-beer!

Retail and industrial space occupied by brewing operations in Texas has nearly tripled since 2005 to 4.8 million sq. ft. due to the meteoric rise of craft beers in what once was the Lone Star (Beer) state.

The number of microbreweries grew from three to 152 in that time, according to a report from CBRE, which noted that brewpubs multiplied nearly five-fold to a total of 55.

Big brewers got into the act last year and promise to keep the phenomenon trending upward. MillerCoors acquired Dallas-Fort Worth’s Revolver Brewing and Anheuser-Busch purchased Houston-based Karbach Brewery.

Central Texas is the hub of craft brewing in the state, said CBRE. More than 187,000 barrels — the equivalent of 26 million bottles — of quality brew emanated from that region in 2016.
