Creative lab to open at Philly Fashion District

8/1/2019
The mega retail-dining-and-entertainment center set to debut in Center City Philadelphia in September has landed workspace operator that hits the cymbals on the entertainment aspect.

REC Philly, an 800-member organization of performers, visual artists, and creatives bonded together to launch their own careers, will be opening a 10,000-sq.-ft. “gym for creatives” in an old warehouse at 9th and Market Streets within the new Fashion District.

Seeking to put to rest the directive that creatives had to move to Los Angeles or New York to launch careers, REC Philly members pursue a plan of helping each other in pursuing direct-to-consumer entrepreneurship through resource sharing.

A story in Technically Philly reported that the workspace will have an event space sponsored by Live Nation, as well as recording, podcasting, photo/video and dance studios.

PREIT’s $400 million dollar Fashion District will have its grand opening on Sept. 19 with a promise to invigorate Center City with high-end dining and retail, along with an AMC Cinema that will be downtown Philly’s lone movie multiplex.
