Des Moines gets its first outlet center

10/24/2017
Thousands of Iowans converged in Des Moines this week to register a vote for value retail.

They gathered to see Governor Kim Reynolds cut the ribbon to open the region’s first outlet center: The Outlets of Des Moines near the Prairie Meadows Casino and Racetrack in the town of Altoona. Brands at the center include ASICS, Nike Factory Store, Express Factory Store, Francesca’s, LOFT Outlet, Converse, Tommy Hilfiger, Under Armour, Vera Bradley, Levi’s, Brooks Brothers, and Le Creuset.

“New England Development had many choices when it came to where they could invest, but they chose Iowa,” Reynolds said. “The positive economic impact began a couple years ago with the construction phase, providing about 500 jobs. Another 800 jobs will be created for people hired at the center.”

Also on hand were New England Development chairman Steven Karp and president of New England Development, Douglass Karp.

New England Development owns and operates several other outlet centers, among them Asheville Outlets in Asheville, North Carolina; Clarksburg Premium Outlets in Clarksburg, Maryland; Outlets of Little Rock in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Palm Beach Outlets in West Palm Beach, Florida.
