Report: Disney shops to open in J.C. Penney

BY Staff Writer

New York — Disney has joined the roster of brands that will be setting up shop in J.C. Penney Co., with Disney children’s boutiques opening in Penney stores next fall, Women’s Wear Daily reported.

The in-store boutiques will feature products designed and sourced by Disney Consumer Products exclusively for J.C. Penney’s as well as Disney stores and theme parts, according to the report.

Women’s Wear Daily got a jump on the story and reported this morning that at least 520 J.C. Penney stores will be getting the shops in time for next year’s back-to-school season.

While J.C. Penney and other major retailers including Wal-Mart, Macy’s and Kohl’s sell Disney licensed products, the goods stocked in J.C. Penney’s Disney shops will be made by Disney Consumer Products exclusively for Penney and its own Disney stores and theme parks.

J.C. Penney chief merchant Liz Sweney told fashion industry publication WWD that the shops “will command prominent space.”

The Disney shops will average 750 sq. ft. to 1,100 sq. ft. and sell costumes, plush toys, figurines, footwear, sleepwear, underwear, backpacks, lunch totes and apparel for boys, girls and babies, the report said.

We have seen so many top-shelf models hit with lockscreen flaws that the whole thing would be comical if it weren't so serious. We have seen Apple iPhone users suffer going back to iOS 6.1.1. The recent iOS 6.1.3 update made matters worse by introducing a passcode flaw in both the Apple iPhone 4 and Apple iPhone 5. Back in December, a dangerous exploit was found in Samsung devices running Exynos 4210 and Exynos 4412 processors. Eventually, software was sent out to repair the problem which affected some owners of the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung GALAXY Note II among others models. best whey protein powder | irs audit triggers

What took them so long? Disney has a very good distribution network around the world, I don't think it's that difficult for them to spread even further, it's only a matter of logistics. I hope they'll bring along the brand name sunglasses, my daughter keeps asking me about she could get them.

Walgreens to close 76 USA Drug-affiliated stores

BY Allison Cerra

Deerfield, Ill. — Walgreens announced plans to close more than half of the stores it is acquiring in its deal with USA Drug.

The company — which said in July it would purchase the mid-South drug store chain for approximately $438 million — confirmed it would close approximately 76 stores across the region. USA Drug operates 144 stores under the USA Drug, Super D Drug, May’s Drug, Med-X and Drug Warehouse banners.

"Although we have not completed the purchase of the USA Drug chain, we are taking steps in anticipation of the completion of the transaction, which is expected to occur in mid-September," Walgreens spokesman Jim Graham said. "After careful planning and market analysis, on Monday we began to notify employees of our intent to close [the stores]. Our decisions about store closures are based on a number of considerations, including size of the market and proximity to other Walgreens and USA Drug stores and affiliates. We expect to close the stores by November."

In its initial acquisition announcement, Walgreens said that the acquired drug stores would continue to operate under their current brand names after the transaction closes, and decisions would be made over time regarding the best, most effective way to harmonize Walgreens and the acquired brands.

Corner Bakery to open 18 Seattle-area units starting next year

BY Katherine Boccaccio

Dallas — Fast-casual bakery concept Corner Bakery Café said Thursday it has executed a deal with a franchise group to open the chain’s first restaurants in the Pacific Northwest beginning in 2013.

Northwest Bakery Cafe, a group of restaurant operators that owns 95 Jack in the Box locations, is slated to open 18 Corner Bakery franchised restaurants in and around Seattle over the next seven years.

With two locations expected to open in the next 24 months, Corner Bakery Cafe said it is currently reviewing sites for its first restaurants, which will likely include cafes in Bellevue and Seattle.

"Seattle is the perfect market in which to launch our expansion into the Northwest," said Jonathan Benjamin, VP of franchise sales for Corner Bakery Cafe.

Corner Bakery currently operates 140 restaurants in 15 states; to date, 22 franchise agreements have been signed for more than 279 new restaurants. Corner Bakery said it plans to double its footprint in the U.S. over the next four years through franchise and company-owned cafes.
