Spooky interactive experience to open at Minnesota mall

6/5/2019
Rosedale Center has gotten creative with a vacated space once occupied by a big-box store – and it’s a screamer.

Construction is now underway for nonprofit arts organization Haunted Basement’s 20,000+ -sq.-ft. interactive horror house experience at the Minnesota mall. The installation will fill the space vacated by Herberger’s in 2018.

The Haunted Basement experience is based on “absurdist psychological horror,” where artist-driven environments focus on performance, dance, professional clowning, improv and theatrical influences. According to the Haunted Basement website, visitors should expect strong smells, physical contact, and projectile liquids. They may get "very messy," may have to crawl, and may find themselves "in a confined space with something horrible."

The Haunted Basement experience is set to open to the public at the end of September through the first weekend in November. According to a spokesperson, after the interactive experience closes on Nov. 2, the Rosedale Center space will continue as the headquarters of the arts organization and will host other events in addition to their annual signature event, Haunted Basement.
