A digitally native British upstart is expanding its brick-and-mortar portfolio.

Oak Furnitureland, the U.K.’s largest retailer of solid hardwood furniture, has opened its first U.S. location, at Wayside shopping center in Burlington, Massachusetts. The 16,465-sq.-ft. store features an airy, spacious layout marked by coordinated room-sets.

The space showcases the brand’s signature hardwood furniture, which is made from 100% solid hardwood – never particle board or veneer.

Oak Furnitureland was founded in 2006, and currently operates more than 100 stores across the U.K. With no middleman, it able to offer authentic hardwood furniture at affordable prices while maintaining credible timber sourcing, according to the company. Oak Furnitureland began offering online furniture sales to the U.S. market in 2016.

“We are thrilled to work with Oak Furnitureland to open their first stateside brick and mortar location,” said Deb Di Meo, VP, leasing at Wilder, a Boston-based real estate development, management and leasing firm. “Now, along with our already popular mix of restaurants, fashion tenants, and more, Wayside is home to three iconic furniture stores to serve our Boston area shopper."

Wayside was selected for its proximity to Boston, high foot traffic, and complementary retailers. In focus groups, the company offered customers three locations around the region, and the Burlington location earned over 75%of the vote in each group.

“Our customers overwhelmingly chose Burlington, Massachusetts, for the first U.S. store and Wayside is the perfect fit for our brand,” said Alex Fisher, CEO at Oak Furnitureland. “With its easy accessibility and high quality of service it was an easy choice.”
