Report: Walmart to go head to head with Prime Day

Amazon’s chief competitor is reportedly running its own mid-October online sales event.

According to 9to5Toys, Walmart is hosting its own annual “Big Save” promotion Oct. 11-15. The Big Save, which starts one day earlier and ends one day later than the 2020 edition of Prime Day, is said to offer “Black Friday-like savings” on “thousands of items” from Walmart and its Marketplace third-party digital sellers on products in categories including electronics, home, toys, beauty, and fashion.

Another major rival to Amazon and Walmart, Target, is also running its own discount promotion in direct competition with Prime Day. Tech-focused e-tailer Newegg is also running an online promotion Oct. 13-15.

Walmart will also reportedly offer free shipping on eligible orders worth more than $35, but has not specified whether members of the new Walmart+ membership program will earn rewards from Big Save discount purchases. Unlike Prime Day, which requires membership in the Amazon Prime program to participate (although 30-day free trial memberships are available), the Big Save does not require membership in any program to receive discounts.
